The John W. Pope Civitas Institute released their January Decision-maker poll today. In the Republican Primary for Governor, Pat McCrory leads the field only one week after officially announcing his candidacy.
McCrory earned 19% support in the poll, followed by Fred Smith at 14%, Bill Graham at 12%, and Bob Orr at 5%. The poll results also showed that a large number remain undecided in the GOP primary - 49% responded "Unsure". Interestingly enough, with such a high percentage of "unsure" voters this leaves room for the possibility that a candidate could win the so-called crowded primary without a run-off.

Other interesting results showed that 44% of the people said it made "No Difference" if a candidate for Governor was Mayor of Charlotte. In the same question, an equal amount (20% each) said it made them "More" (20%)likely to vote for that candidate, and also "Less" (20%) less likely.

No Charlotte Nominee ever wins. They have the strength and base to win the nomination but not enough to carry the state. This is a disaster for us. We need to get behind one of the other candidates, preferably the conservative in the race, Senator Smith, and actually have a chance of winning in the general election.
